Dentistry from the Heart
Description
Dentistry from the Heart is a non-profit organization. Each year we participate and help patients who are unable to afford proper dental care receive fillings, extractions, cleanings, and other services. We are proud to be a part of the organization and proud to give back to the community that means so much to us.
Becky: Welcome to Dentistry from the Heart. So Dentistry from the Heart is a nonprofit organization. It’s a way that we can give back to this wonderful community that supports us so nicely. So the way it works is that people that need dental care but can’t afford it are able to come here on our Dentistry from the Heart day and receive free dental care. Dr. Whiting: You know what? We are helping out the community with a day of free dentistry. You know, we’re doing fillings, extractions, cleanings, those sorts of things for people who can’t afford dentistry. Becky: And we just get wonderful people that come that have various needs and we love taking care of them. Dr. Whiting: They’re not patients. They’re real people and they’re, you know, like I said, they have stories behind their situations. And we might not know their stories, but we’re still going to treat them and still help them out as best we can. Becky: And so this is a way that we can take care of our own community that takes such good care of us. Dr. McIntyre: We’ve done this for about five years now and this is a way of saying thank you to the community and helping people out who maybe don’t have access to dental care. Woman 2: I’m having three teeth fixed. Medicare and, of course, Medicaid down here in Virginia, it doesn’t cover dental care. So I have multiple sclerosis so this is a blessing to me that I can do this. And they’re wonderful doctors. Woman 3: Pleasure. I’m glad they’re doing it. It helps people out. Becky: Everybody’s here volunteering their time, their talents, their good will. So we couldn’t do this without all the wonderful volunteers we have. Monica: I’m here today from Dentistry from the Heart to volunteer as a hygienist. So hopefully, I get to clean some good teeth today. Dr. Sadoon: It is a beautiful opportunity every time we come here. Just try to help people and have fun and meet other friends and colleagues. Dr. McIntyre: So we’re trying to help as many people as we can with as much as we can. Woman 2: The people are really wonderful. Just, everybody’s great. Male: I feel like I’m in “The Avengers.”
Benefits of Dental Implants
Description
Our patient at Smiles for Life discusses how tooth loss negatively affected his ability to laugh, smile, and eat comfortably. Now that he has received implants, he explains his newfound zest for life, his boost in confidence, and some of the other benefits of dental implants. His social interaction and ability to eat all the foods he enjoys have made implants a truly life-changing decision.
Man: When you’re self-conscious of your smile because there isn’t one, because all you have are just shards and broken teeth, you want to smile, or laugh or say something, but you know everybody is going to see that. When my daughters would have birthday parties, I couldn’t eat their cake because, you know, it was painful. It puts a damper on humor. I love to laugh and cut up. It was difficult. They went in and put implant toward the rear and then a left and right implant in the front. It fit perfectly. I don’t think there’s a technique that those two doctors don’t have mastered. When you’re a patient at Smiles for Life, you’re family. I go into everything I do with more zest now. Interaction with people has gotten a lot better. I mean, dramatically, literally it will change your life. I can eat everything: peanuts, chicken, ribs, steak, you name it I can eat it now and it will change everything. A Boost in Confidence
Description
Man: Before I had the implants, my teeth weren’t very strong. There weren’t many left. As far as trying to smile or talk to people, it was kind of embarrassing. I had to be particular in what I was eating. I had to chew at certain spots because, other places, there wasn’t anything to chew with. Smiles for Life is one of the easiest, softest places I’ve ever had any dental work done. I love smiling now. I like the way my teeth are now. I’d sit and eat cashews, peanuts, steak. There is no more pain, no more toothaches, and I got total confidence that people are not staring at my teeth. When my wife saw my new smile, she was happier because she knew that I felt better with it personally. Smiles for Life gives you a whole lot more confidence in whatever you want to do Woman: Join us for a free dental implant seminar. Call Smiles for Life today.
Are Dental Implants Worth It?
Description
Woman 1: I’m moving into two years now with implants and it’s hard to imagine life without them now. Man 1: I’ve always seemed to be outgoing, but I just didn’t smile as often and my first impression, sometimes, wasn’t what I wanted it to be. Woman 2: Before I had this procedure done, people never complimented my smile. Woman 3: You know, I can’t at any point say that it hurt, and I think the big fact, too, that I knew that I was going to be able to get sedation. Woman 4: I didn’t have any pain. I didn’t even have post-operative pain. Man 2: I went to the seminar and learned quite a bit and learned there was a third alternative. Man 3: Smiles for Life is one of the easiest, softest places I’ve ever had any dental work done. Man 4: When you’re a patient at Smiles for Life, you’re family. I don’t think there’s a technique that those two doctors don’t have mastered. Woman 5: He asked really good questions. Woman 2: They took great care of me, he and his staff. Man 1: Even when I’m talking over the phone, you know, I put on a smile even though I know they can’t see it, but I feel like they can feel it. Man 4: You name it, I can eat it now and it will change everything. Voiceover: Call today to learn more about sedation dentistry and dental implants.

Woman 1: I have always been very conscious of what my smile looked like and what my mouth looked like. Man 1: When you’re self-conscious of your smile, because there isn’t one, because all you have are just shards and broken teeth, you want to smile or laugh or say something, but you just know everybody’s going to see that. Man 2: My poor wife was experiencing jaw issues. Woman 2: The pain was at a level where it made me cry. Man 3: My teeth weren’t very strong. There weren’t very many left. As far as trying to smile or talk to people, it was kind of embarrassing. Man 4: I’ve always seemed to be outgoing, but I just didn’t smile as often and my first impression sometimes wasn’t what I wanted it to be. Woman 1: I had to, a lot of times, swallow my food basically whole because I had no capacity to chew, other than my gums. Woman 2: When I first went to Dr. Whiting, I did not even consider that my husband’s snoring had anything to do with what was going on with me, but he asked really good questions. And so what that makes me think is that it’s a man who’s passionate about what he does and he always wants to be on the front line of it. Man 3: Smiles for Life is one of the easiest, softest places I’ve ever had any dental work done. Woman 1: I’m moving into two years now with implants and it’s hard to imagine life without them now. Man 4: Well, definitely, I’m smiling a whole lot more. Even when I’m talking over the phone, you know, I put on a smile even though I know they can’t see it, but I feel like they can feel it. Man 3: Oh, I love smiling now. I like the way my teeth are now. There’s no more pain, no more toothaches and I’ve got total confidence that people are not staring at my teeth. Candy: I did not want to draw attention to my mouth and how poor my dental health was. When you take a picture, or you’re around a group of people and everybody’s talking, you kind of laugh, and you laugh with your mouth closed. I have always been very conscious of what my smile looked like and what my mouth looked like. I had to, a lot of times, swallow my food basically whole because I had no capacity to chew, other than my gums. I’m moving into two years now with implants and it’s hard to imagine life without them now. It’s made a big difference. I can eat apples and not have to peel them. I can eat the old-fashioned candy, orange slices. The day that my implants were placed, my son went with me. I came out and he looked at me and he said, “Mom,” he said, “you look beautiful. I think this is the first time that I’ve ever seen my mother really smile.” It’s one of the best decisions that you’ll ever make. These things are wonderful. Porcelain Veneers for a Chipped Tooth
Description
After receiving a dental filling for a chipped tooth, Jody noticed that years of drinking coffee left visible, unwanted stains around the filling. She decided that porcelain veneers for a chipped tooth, offered by the doctors at Smiles for Life, were her best option for avoiding further stains. Prior to her treatment, the doctors were able to show her computer-generated photos to give her an idea of how veneers would transform her smile.

What is a Pano?
Description
At Smiles for Life Dental we have invested in dental technologies that make a difference in our patients’ lives. One such technology is the panoramic dental X-ray, which creates an image of your entire mouth, including all teeth and jaw bones. This gives our doctors a complete picture of your oral health, which promotes better diagnosis, treatment and outcomes. The pano is also a more comfortable experience for our patients!
